DEVORE — For all their recent accomplishments, the Temecula Great Oak cross country teams still have benchmarks left to meet.
For example, the Wolfpack boys had never won as a team in sweepstakes at the Inland Empire Challenge, and the girls had never had an individual sweepstakes champion prior to Saturday.
Those two goals can now be checked off.
Sophomore Destiny Collins nearly led wire-to-wire as she won an individual championship and led Great Oak’s girls to an easy team sweeps win at the Inland Empire Challenge at Glen Helen Regional Park. On the boys’ side, junior Nick Doan and sophomore Robbie Gleeson both turned in top-10 finishes as Great Oak outlasted an impressive second-place performance by Jurupa Valley Rubidoux to win its first boys sweeps team title at Glen Helen.
